Becoming a member of a political party

Can anyone tell whether a government pensioner can join and become a member of a political party of India ? Is there any restriction ?

After retirement No provision of conduct rules apply to Govt servant except that Gp-A pensioner needs prior permission to join commercial employment.

After retirement, conduct rules are not binding on your private life. You are free to live your life in any manner you like.
