Cyber crime

Guest (Querist) 03 September 2014 This query is : Resolved
Dear Ld. Members,
A cybercrime has been committed and the police registered the case after 15 days of making the complaint. The investigating agency is now saying that the IP address cannot be traced. They are also not giving any information regarding the progress of the matter.
I want to specifically know:
1) Whether IP address can/cannot be traced?
2) What is the procedure to trace IP address of a computer?
3) How to procure information regarding the matter? (Apart from filing RTI)
4) What remedy is available before the Court(s)?
Thanking you in anticipation....

1. IP Address can be easy traced.
2. If the crime is committed through a email, it can be traced by seeing the header of the mail, which contains the IP Address of the sender.

You have give more details of the cyber crime. Then only you can get more opinions from the experts.

Computers connected to the Internet must speak the "Internet language" called the "Internet Protocol" or simply "IP." Each computer is assigned a unique address somewhat similar to a street address or telephone number.
Every computer, has an IP address so it can communicate across the Internet. Communication is accomplished by sending pieces of information called "packets" that include the IP address of the destination computer.

1.Cyber investigations are not well equipped to combat the offences committed by adopting technics every now and then, and it is difficult to fix and keep track.2.The IP address is not revealed with an intention not to maintain anonymity, and this has become a challenge in identifying the generating system.3.Cyber cell in the Police Dept., and the Private investigating agencies could be approached to gather informations with screen shots.4.The courts too depend on the investigations to proceed.

You cam understand that these phenomenon has added more teeth in the Information technology Act with stringent punishments,But,once located, the trial etc.,could be easily fixed unlike in conventional and traditional crimes.

Tracing of IP address is not so difficult.
If the police is not cooperating then you can ask for status report from them through Magistrate on progress of the case.

Police can easily trace the IP address of the computer from which the crime was done. You may wait for some more time.
