I would like to know whether a person holding GREEN CARD (USA) can stand guarantee to a loan as that person has a share in the ancestral property that is being mortgaged as security?

Your guarantee would be accepted by bank and as a guarantor you would be personally liable for the loan availed. As a mortgagor of your share of the property, your portion of the mortgage can be enforced by the bank. If you had become guarantor, your personal properties also can be pursued by the bank through court.
