You have to apply to the bar council for sanad.

Pune, Thu Jun 17 2010, 00:53 hrs

The Bar Council of India (BCI) will hold the first All-India Bar Examination (AIBE) for fresh LLB graduates to get their certificate of practice (sanad) in December 2010, despite criticism from bar associations and the students. “ Forms of the examination, to be held in December, will be available on the BCI website after June 30. All LLB students graduating in the academic year 2009-10 onwards need to clear this exam in order to practice law in India,” said Rajendra Raghuvanshi, advocate-member, Bar Council of India (BCI) on Tuesday.

This has cleared the doubts of thousands of LLB students who graduated from the University of Pune after the results were declared on Monday.

According to Raghuvanshi, a detailed announcement of the application process will be made by July 15. Application forms for AIBE will also be available at the offices of all State Bar Councils, as mentioned on the BCI website. The BCI has prepared special study material for this examination and is expected to dispatch it on a continuous basis from August 16.

After the closure of the application process, the final list of examination centers and advocates appearing for the AIBE will be notified on November 1. While the minimum marks required to clear AIBE is 40 per cent, it is still being finalised with the expert committee set up by the Bar Council of India. Further information about

AIBE is available on www.barcouncilofindia.org .

Lawyers and law students, however, are strongly opposing this examination. “The AIBE covers the same subjects that are included in the three-year and five-year LLB programmes at law schools in India. What is the point of making students appear for this exam?,” said advocate Milind Pawar, president, Pune Bar Association.

He said that if it is about improving quality of lawyers, the nature of law courses or the syllabus must be changed. Maitryee Vidhate, a law student who got first class in the five-year LLB course, results of which were declared on Monday, said that she had already spent five years studying law.

“Now I have to spend another six months in getting the certificate of practice, which I otherwise would have got in a month. Moreover, I have to spend Rs 1,300 to appear for the mandatory AIBE. Such decisions should have been taken in consultation with the student body and the lawyers,” she said.

Students who cannot appear for the examination scheduled on December 5, can appear for the next one -in April 2011. The All India Bar Examination will be conducted twice every year in April and November from 2011 onwards.

As far as my memory goes we unitedly decided not to reply academic query.
Correct me if I am wrong.

It seems that it is not academic query.

You have no need to clear examination of AIBE Since you have passed at 2008.

Just go to local bar of your district and get desired information about sanad.

I think Mr.Barman is correct.

This is not a academic query rather a personal problem of an advocate. LLB students who passed their final exam up to the session 2008-09 need not appear in AIBE so enrollment from bar Council of Your State is sufficient for you and you do not require specific Sanad for practice.

I agree with opinion that AIBE exam is not necessary.
