I am a non gazetted govt. servant (V.L.W) in block office under Jharkhand Govt. I am about to get additional charge of another non gazetted post (Panchayat Secretary) which is a lower grade pay post under same office. The work procedures are entirely different of both the posts. One post is from agriculture department and the other post is from rural development department. I wanted to ask that am I eligible to get additional allowance for that additional charge? What are the rules regarding this under Fundamental Rule 49 (b) or any other section? Please help.

Yes, subject to the prescribed conditions of the Rule, you will be quite eligible to claim the additional salary as per the provisions of FR 49. But, the official orders of appointment must express about the entitlement, may be duly included in the same order of appointment or through a separate order issued for the purpose of fixation of pay.

Officers discharging independent duties and functioning as head of office is normally allowed additional charge allowance and the stipulation is ordered while posting itself.

Sorry to differ with the opinion of Shri Isaac Gabriel. Rule 49 is applicable in general on combination of any one post with any other post/posts, but not merely on combination of posts of HEAD of offices.

Thank you Dhingra sir. Same additional charge was given to my friend who's on same post as mine. But there was nothing written on his appointment letter regarding any extra allowance. When I argued he said there's no provision of extra allowance for additional charge of a lower post. But there is a provision of extra allowance for taking additional charge of higher post. So I was confused.

I think Additional Pay will be sanctioned if an employee kept as FAC for not less than 3 months in a superior post under Rule 49.
