Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 25 January 2010 This query is : Resolved
Hi,
I am student of MBA. My college is one of the popular college and college having good quality education and world class infrastructure college provide it’s Post graduation programme and the MBA degree from Vinyaka university (Deemed). One of the News paper is directly attacking on college and trying to harm the college image in public, by giving the News in front page. News paper Publish “ NOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN WITH STUDENT’S FUTURE?” We all know what the education minister said. We the student are affecting very badly by this kind of news rather than the deemed university problem.
Please tell me
1. Can we stop that news paper’s editor to giving the news against the college?
2. Can we pull him (editor) in court?

You or the management or both can serve a legal notice through your counsel to such newspaper, publisher, writer, reporter, editor etc. seeking withdrawal of their comments with open apology within a stipulated time failing which you can file both civil as well as criminal cases against them.

I don't think it would be a valid case since the newspaper report is based on the statements of the concerned minister. Personally what the newspaper has published is not in the knowledge of the experts here, however from the details from your query it appears that the newspaper is only questioning/reflecting/directing the plight of the student community over the government's decision to close all deemed universities.

If the news published in the newspaper is malicious and defamatory, you may immediately approach a civil court and bring an injunction against such publications in future. The court would grant injunction restraining the newspaper from publishing news about your college.

If you could show that the newspaper is biased and intends to publish false news without your permission or verification from you, they would be at fault. You may even initiate defamatory proceedings against the newspaper.
