Whether transferring possessory rights in immovable property requires registration under registration act?

Yes. u/s 17 of the Indian Regn., act any immoveable property more than Rs.100/- transferred to any body requires registration. It is mandatory.

Sir,
Supposing the possessory rights are transferred or surrendered by the lessee in favor of the lessor, Would it still be required to be registered u/s17 of the Indian Registration act?
