For your information.. Lawyer and advocates not in same meaning.. For public's view its may be a similar meaning.. Lawyer mean every law graduates can be called as lawyers. But advocates mean who are doing court practise. I mean who one representing the facts of the case before the court of law he can called as advocate.

If we focuss on the author's specific query who needs a suitable word which is common for Advocate, Lawyer, counsel, pleader, attorney, etc....

I stick on Britishers addressing all these professional tags with a single word . That is....LEARNED BROTHER. All of us must have learnt this when we did our Jurisprudence subject in the First year of our law degree course.

Well all the words mentioned in the query i.e. ADVOCATE,LAWYER,COUNSEL, PLEADER, ATTORNEY, are related to the poerson who is qualified to give legal advice and in my view when such word is used by the person out side the lawyers comunity the most appropriate word is "Legal Counsel". However,in case such word is required to be used between the Lawyers themselves then no doubt "Learned Brother" is the ultimate choice.
There are certain cases where the person giving the legal advice is not qualified as a lawyer and he advises only on the basis of his experience then all the words above can not be used for him.
