Can a case be taken for mental harassment?

Guest (Querist) 17 July 2016 This query is : Resolved
I am a 24 year old boy. In college studying B.Arch. I was in a relationship with a girl for over 2 years and even though the start was peaceful it soon turned ugly. I had never abused her or said anything bad about her or even hit her. I was very open to her about things and I shared with her a few of my past incidents. So this one day, we were arguing about a silly matter and she suddenly started verbally abusing me and when that wasn't enough she started to taunt me using my past and I reacted and shoved her and she fell down but I soon apologized and picked her up. Later we apologized to each other and things went on smoothly for a while. Yet again, another fight ensued and it was the same routine again and only this time I ended up slapping her. It wasn't even hard, even she admitted it later on. The same things happens a third time and then finally the fourth time, which was actually after the break up, the same thing again and I slapped her and she starting hitting back, this wasn't the first time she was physically abusive, and I choked her for like 3 seconds and then left. I know I was wrong and in terms of Indian Law I am the one to be penalized. She was absolutely fine then and now. Her parents keep threatening me by telling me they will call the police on me. They can and I feel they are entitled to that but I will not stand by quietly and take all her abuse. She told it to my face, that I'm poor and below her standard and I won't be able to do anything to her. The specifics incidents that I labelled as my past were incidents that sent me into depression for a whole year and I had undergone treatment for it. So is there anything I can do or am I really powerless?

Even though she was abusive, you committed crime by raising hands on her.
Keep distance from her and do not interact with her anymore and pray to God that she doe snot lodge complaint against you.

You seem to be keen in going to Jail.
