Protection officer in dv case

(Querist) 21 February 2014 This query is : Resolved
Respected Experts,

Someone I know is in need of help as she is facing Domestic violence. She is married since 25 years and has 2 children, 1 girl aged 17 years and a boy aged 18 years both are students. She is financially not sound and may not be able to afford an Advocate. She wants to complain. Please help me with the address of the Protection officer in Mira Road, Thane. (I tried searching the internet but I am unable to find) If there is no protection officer then can she go to the police station and will the police help her to register Domestic Incident Report (because it is civil case). The lady is scared as she is afraid that her husband will get violent if he learns about her approaching police. Experts living in Mira road, Thane, Maharashtra, please reply. Thank You

You need not search for Protection officer. You have to meet an advocate and get him filed a case under PWDV Act.
The court would then send the matter to PO. In any case PO has no jurisdiction try the dispute. It only makes its recommendation.

It is her life, let her decide what to do. She is grown up enough to take her decision.

If she is not in a position to pay to lawyer she can seek legal assistance from district legal aid center.

It is always better to get the assistance of lawyer in such case.

With this maintenance and residence is also to be claimed.

The District collectorate is generally housing the social welfare departments too, where the protection officer will be found to help the destitute women in this regard.Even otherwise, since the office is coming under the state government controlled by the District collector, an enquiry with the collectorate will fetch information desired.

Move an application before area Magistrate and seek advocate from District Legal Services Authority to take care of your complaint (free of cost).
