Parveen Kr. Aggarwal (Expert) 31 March 2010

An affidavit is a formal sworn statement of fact, written down, signed, and witnessed as to the veracity of the signature by a taker of oaths, such as a notary public.

An affidavit is to be on stamp paper except the affidavits to be filed in the court which may be on plain paper.

It will depend on the nature of affidavit whether it is to be attested by a notary or an oath commissioner or any other officer.

Fees of notaries and oath commissioners are prescribed in the relevant rules.
