Marriage Registration validity in India Urgent please

(Querist) 17 February 2010 This query is : Resolved
My client and his would be wife are Indian citizens, and they are planning to get their marriage solemnized and registered in Singapore/Australia.

They are paternal first cousins (my client fathers are full blood siblings.

My query is If that above marriage would be legal in India, if it is registered lawfully in Singapore/Australia or if there are any other formalities that needs to be performed in India waiting for your valuable suggestions

As far as the Indian laws regarding marriages are concerned, the marriage is void since both your client & his would be fall under the prohibited degree of relationship. Further, a citizen is governed by his national laws as long as they reside in India, What may be legal in one country may be illegal in another country and vice versa.

In the given facts the marriage registered outside India can very well be recognised her also. So far as their paternal first cousins relation is concerned, it is unfortunate according to Hindu Marriage Act but if those are Muslims then their is no problem.
