who are group A govt officers? please tell me.
in a govt job document verification it is written that all documents like class 10 12 and graduation mark sheets xerox copy has to be attested by group A govt officer.
How will I know who are group A officers?

1. If the Municipal Executive Officer is of I.A.S. or State Govt cadre and or is a Gazetted First Class Officer of the Govt. then he can attest such documents.
2. You can get such documents attested by an Executive Magistrate also.

Gazetted Officer of Class-I status are called Group "A" Officers. Exective Officer of a municipality is normally a Group A Officer.

Any gazetted officer can attest copies of documents. Generally, Executive Officer of a municipality would be a gazetted officer.
It is a fact that students and general public are facing great problem in getting such attestation. It is high time that this archaic procedure is done away with.

@ Mr.Venu - Nowadays many institutions are not asking attestation after the photo copy became popular. They ask self-attestation. However, still there few institutions who are asking attestation. Any Revenue Officer above the Tehsildar Cadre, any Government Doctor, Govt.School Head Master; Govt.College Lecturers can attest these documents.

If the purpose is for getting attestation, you may get it attested from gazetted officers listed by experts above , in addition, the Post masters, High School headmaster (govt. School) can also attest as they are gazetted officers.
