name change

(Querist) 22 June 2010 This query is : Resolved
R/ Sir,
I belong to Mohindergarh (Haryana). My name is ANIL KUMAR. My all IDs, educational documents (certificates/ degrees) are with the same name. But I want to change my name from ANIL KUMAR to ANIL YADAV PACHWANIA. But the Education Board, Haryana refused to do so. They said, there is not any provision to remove the existing surname 'KUMAR'. You can add your desired sub-caste/surname 'YADAV PACHWANIA' with the existing name 'ANIL KUMAR' like 'ANIL KUMAR YADAV' OR 'ANIL KUMAR PACHWANIA' OR ANIL KUMAR YADAV PACHWANIA'. But I don't want to keep 'KUMAR'. Is there any legal provision to keep the name 'ANIL YADAV PACHWANIA'. If I do such then my education documents will be eligible and what procedure I have to adopt. I have completed the formalities like newspaper advertisement & affidavit by notary public.
Thanks n regards

there is no provision to change the existing names in certificates.

you can keep a certified copy of the name change document along with those certificates and claim that both are same.

Dear Mr. Mahender thanks for the advice. But the certified copy of name change means what?

1. Is advt. in the newspaper is sufficient?
2. Is publication in the gazette of India or Haryana gazette is necessary, if yes whats the procedure to publish in the both gazettes & how much expensive?
3. Should I have to carry a notarized affidavit for name change in original all the time or I have to submit the fresh affidavit every time?
4. Is such type of record will be accepted in the recruitment process?

Plz guide me in this reference.
Thanks n regards.

1. no

2. publish the same in state gazette. different states have different rates for the same. the cost is around Rs.100 plus only. for further details visit the public information of the nearest district.

3. keeping a copy of the gazette publication is enough.

4. yes. for such cases people generally use X alias Y where X is the earlier name and Y the new name, for avoiding confusion in official documents.
