Respected sir, my son got engaged with a girl. engagement was done but later due to uncivilized behaviour of girl parent I broke the engagement. engagement cost and photographer cost had been born by me. Please tell me that is there any legal consequences now.

Engagement is not merely bearing some of the expenses. The reputation of both the parties in such event gets lower down but certainly girls side gets more affected in the current scenario of thinking in our soceity so a suit for damages may come out from the other side so better to settle the matter mutually.

Generally no one wants to slap a suit / case against revocation of engagement before solemanisation of marriage. However, no one can predict what is there in the mind of girl's party.
At this stage nothing can be presumed as to what action is being planned by the other party, which shall have to be contested after institution of a case.

'Engagement' does not amount to a 'lawful agreement' - a completed contract. As such, a broken agreement does not constitute a cause of action for a civil action and seeking damages.

There can be no. of grounds for filing a case, all would drag both parties in court for years and would be having forgoing social effects.
Since the step has been taken, you should wait and watch.
If they file case on this ground of breaking of engagement, it would be far better than they could be doing against you / your family after marriage.

Well advised by Mr.Rajendra K Goyal and ensure you had returned what ever had been given by them at the time Engagement and if money had been spent by other side for the purpose of Engagement return that also so that you could be more safe If at all they wish to harass you for this maximum they could say there was an Dowry Demand. Breaking of Hindu engagement definitely shall not give a cause of action as the same is though engagement but still not an agreement but the amount incurred from the side of the girl especially given to the side of the boy can definitely be got recovered.

If there is any claim from other side, try to deal with amicably, taking help of friends and relatives.
As advised above, wait and watch should be the Strategy at present. Let any action be initiated from other side.

Practically, expenses are borne by both sides and it is difficult to believe that only boy side incurred every expense in the engagement and girl side incurred nothing rather it remains opposite, however, the query is based upon assumptions and presumptions. Once practical aspects come forward only then query is required to be raised.

Apprehensions have no Replies -- makkar could have stopped with it . Why and for what reason he should involve the name of Honorable Ex President of Our India and Great Scientist of Our Bharath Dr.Abdul Kalam the Pride of our Nation;s name. here. It is hard to believe makkar was in normal when he had posted it.. Posting a bad comment about any one basing on their Religion and Caste as done by Rajkumar Makkad in the above Post is an Offence and Not to be encouraged or entertained here.

Is't it better to gracefully posting the replies instead of indicating or targeting a particular expert? This site is not my source of bread and butter. If all other experts by remaining silent despite of the reading such derogatory and defamatory comments repeatedly being made by a particular expert against me do support such comments then I have no other option to leave the site and this Hon'rary service meant for general public so that the particular 'expert' may be facilitated to change his target to defame. This particular alleged expert all the time indulges in fighting with one or the other experts but it is seen that the targeted person has only either to rebut or to bear insult but all other keep on promoting him either by keeping silence or by supporting him by way of their similar posts.
Anyways, I feel apology from all of you if I have made some accusations against any of the experts and now I leave this site for all of you.
