Service certificate,FnF statement should be supplied to all employees.

Relieving letter signifies employee has separated and nothing is due against employee.

So there should be no apprehension.

It has become trend and almost all employers ask for it and is its own sense is required to remain employable.

Acceptance of notice,resignation,Form16,PF a/c slips,Service certificate,FnF statement, salary slips of all months can serve your purpose.

Relieving letter should be issued, the HR assistance is wrong.

Either the HR person is ignorant or he/she himself/herself has framed a private policy or his/her employer/superior has framed a private policy for HR etc etc ............

Since it is your need then press for it and write to good offices of appointing authority,MD etc............in addition to other docs as already posted above.

If required take help of employee's/trade union leaders, labor Law Consultant, officials in Dept. of Labor....

If your appointment letter contains the specific period of your relieving, there is no further requirement to issue relieving letter, however, there is no harm if the same is also issued so as to show that everything has been cleared with that employer as on the day of relieving.

Take up the matter with management in writing with acknowledgement.

Yours is purely an academic query.

If not, do you believe that the HR Assistant is the final authority to decide your case?

Also, please indicate on which date you have submitted your resignation notice and which would be effective date of your resignation?
