Choosing witness for a will

(Querist) 22 August 2015 This query is : Resolved
Hi, i want to make a will document and was planning to ask my uncle and a recent friend to be witnesses.

I heard that its good to have a witness who knows you/your family in person for long, else in case of an unfortunate event and challenge to will by someone, that witness testimony is not of much value as he/she didnt knew the person well.

Is this true? or i can safely ask my recent friend to sign as witness?
Sudhir Kumar, Advocate (Expert) 22 August 2015
the witness of the will is just required to depose that the will was signed in his presence and he knew the person who signed it.

His knowledge about entire family is irrelevant.
