WHAT IS THE TIME LIMITATION PERIOD FOR FILING A CASE FOR DEFAMATION ? IS THERE ANY EXCEPTION IF CASE IS FILED UNDER DEFAMATION AFTER THE EXPIRY OF THE TIME LIMITATION PERIOD ?

Limitation period in defamation In the case of defamation, there is a one year limitation period, but the court has a discretion to extend.

For compensation for libel: One year from When the libel is published.

For compensation for slander: One year When the words are spoken or if the words are not actionable in themselves, when the special damage complained of results.
