Correction of name on educational certificates

(Querist) 29 January 2014 This query is : Resolved
Hello,
I am in a big confusion whether to apply for a correction in my name or not. My educational certificates have different name than the ID proofs.
My name should be Tarun Kumar Garudla but in my 10th, 12th and B.tech , it is Tarun Kumar Garudla Surya(Surya is the name of my Grand father, it has been added to surname by mistake in my 10th certificate and that continued). On voter ID,Ration card the name is Tarun Kumar Garudla and I have PAN card, AADHAR on the other name(Tarun Kumar Garudla Surya). I want my name to be Tarun Kumar Garudla only. I have completed my education now. I am trying to apply for jobs but I am concerned about the name on Educational certificates and ID proofs being different.

I have completed my schooling in 2006, 12th 2008 and b.tech 2012. I have been warned that, I might experience issues applying for govt. jobs. I would like my name to be "Tarun Kumar Garudla".

My Questions are:
1) Should I apply for a correction in name, Is that necessary?
2) How do I go about changing name on Educational Certificates?
3)How long will it take for the correction in names?
4) Or an affidavit on this would be enough?

Please suggest me on this. Waiting for replies.
Thank you in advance

Most of your documents, except Voter ID and Ration Card bear the name "Tarun Kumar Garudla Surya".

Therefore keep the full name. Do not try to change anything. That is not an easy process. In any case, it is not wrong if your name also contains the name 'surya' of your grandfather.

Better keep your full name for all purpose.
It is easy to get the name amended / rectified in Voter I-Card and the Ration Card and is almost impossible to get it changed in all your educational certificates.

for change of name in X std certificate application has to be made within period of 2 years as per CBSE guidelines . delhi high court has recently held that no changes will be permitted after 2 years have expired This Court is conscious that the CBSE’s rules of non-interference for change / correction of date of birth extend to two years after the declaration of the result of Class X examination. That apparently has been done by way of policy which the Court does not deem appropriate to question or correct in these proceedings,” the Court said.

under the circumstances forget your plan for change in name in school leaving certificate

Thank you for replying Ajay Sethi, Rajendra K Goyal and Anirudh.

Rajendra K Goyal and Anirudh, I agree with your point but the names of my family members are correct, I mean they have just Garudla as surname. Can I continue using Tarun Kumar Garudla Surya on educational certificates and Tarun Kumar Garudla on ID proofs? Will this cause any problem in future for govt. jobs and all? I will apply for the correction of name on AADHAR card if this doesn't cause a problem. What should I do to continue using different names on Educational Certificates and ID proofs(only if this is possible)?

Ajay Sethi, I am from Andhra Pradesh and I have done 10th from state board. I am guessing this is not applicable to me, am I right?

how the name got wrongly printed. How far you are guilty
Sudhir Kumar, Advocate (Expert) 30 January 2014
have you contacted board authorities for the procedure
ajay sethi (Expert) 30 January 2014
it is doubtful whether state bard after so many years will agree to name change . hence your remedy is only to move courts . but if stat board relies upon aforesaid judgment court may be reluctant to accept your application for change in name

Yes, I have written it that way on forms which were issued when I was in school. I was naive and I now know that it is a problem. I have contacted Board authorities, they asked me to get letter from School. I went to school and requested about this, they are now looking for my records. They asked me to contact after few days.

Now, Should I drop the idea of correcting name? Can I continue using Tarun Kumar Garudla Surya on educational certificates and Tarun Kumar Garudla on ID proofs for jobs etc?
Rajendra K Goyal (Expert) 30 January 2014
As advised earlier continue with the name as on educational certificates and in case of need get it rectified on Id proofs. It would be easy and less time consuming.
