Age of consent for sex

Can you please tell me what is the age of consent for sex in India? Is it still 16 years or 18 years?

Mr Ramanan,Yes, there is some confusion in Indian law in this regard. S. 375, Clause "Sixthly" says that sex is rape if the woman is below 16 years of age whether it is done with or without her consent.Hence, if she is above 16, it is not rape if it is done with her consent.So, law is an ass: for marriage the woman has to be above 18, but for consensual sex it is is OK if she is 16!!!!
