Citizenship reg

(Querist) 01 February 2012 This query is : Resolved
Dear Sir,
I wish to clarify a doubt regarding citizenship.
i.e.
1.Whether Dual Citizenship is allowed in India for a Indian Origin now settled in abroad?

2.Whether Dual Citizenship is allowed if a foreigner(assume an american)permanently stayed in India?

Regards,
S.Jegadeesan.

Raj Kumar Makkad (Expert) 01 February 2012
Constitution of India do not provide dual citizenship viz, simultaneously holding Indian citizenship & foreign citizenship.
Devajyoti Barman (Expert) 02 February 2012
It is not strictly dual citizenship but the person of Indian origin who has become citizen of other country are now allowed to hold PIO(Person of Indian Origin) Card who do not required Visa to stay in India.
Raj Kumar Makkad (Expert) 02 February 2012
PIO and dual citizenship are entirely different things and cannot be clubbed at one time.
