Property claim during/after divorce

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 16 June 2011 This query is : Resolved
I am going through divorce filed by my wife. I understand that I will have to pay alimony even after divorce. However I want to protect my property (inherited or self acquired) from her.

1. Can she claim my property (inherited or self acquired) during my lifetime either before or after divorce?
2. Can I make a will donating my property to charity so that she does not get anything?

your wife has no right on your property after divorce, if the alimony is received by her month by month. no need to execute a will .

MY ANSWER: yes! you are at absolute liberty to give your property to any body of your choice.

The wife has no share in the property of her erstwhile husband.
So your apprehension is misdirected.
