What is diffrence between heirship certificate and succession certificate. What are the statues under which they are issued? Which courts are competent for issue of the same? what is the procedure adopted for issuing them?
Is it necessary to produce these certicates when immovable /movable property is to be transferred ?

Heirship certificate is issued by the Revenue Authorities on the basis of the enquiry and report submitted by their subordinate officers. Succession certificate is issued by a competent civil court under the Provisions of the Indian Succession Act. It is issued with regard to the movable properties of the deceased. With regard to transfer of immovable properties are concerned, the Revenue Authorities will insist on the production of heirship certificate for mutation purposes. With regard to movable properties like bank deposits etc., the concerned authorities will insist on the production of Succession certificates.
