arbind sir, as i know, information does sent to the respective parents and a notice is also pasted outside the office of the registrar. both are the mandatory provisions to b complied.
SANJAY DIXIT (Expert) 23 October 2008
The information may be given by four ways in marriages under Special Marriage Act :--
1) By regd. post to the addresses of both parties.
2) By local police stations of the both parties.
3) By LIU.
4) By pasting the notice of marriage at the notice board.

(Rules above varies from State to state)

Mandatory provisions cannot make hindrance in the marriage if it is so decided. Still mandatory is mandatory. There is no other go.
Manish Singh (Expert) 23 October 2008
all these procedures are applicable only if you wish to marry under the protection of Special Marriage Act. otherwise you are free to chose the forum of the marriage.

apart from that, even if your parents objects to the marriage, those objections need to be valid ones to restrain your marriage. if the objections are of trivial nature, then you or the registrar dont need to pay any heed to them.
