Many insitutes award diplomas in cyber law and few insititues award Masters degree in cyber law. But scope is limited and to my knowledge there are no much opportunities open in india.

Mr. Jain, I would give you a very nice suggestion, if you are so keen to enter the law profession as specialist cyber lawyer. I would suggest, you first do a LLB and being an engineering graduate, you can do LLB with specialisation in IPR from IIT Kharagpur. The said LLB from IIT Kgp is meant only for engineering and science graduates and is a very good course. Further, there are certain areas of law in which only an engineering graduates or science graduates can practice for example patent law, Software Copyright etc. Further in the area of cyber law a computer engineering graduate can rock, if coupled with a LLB in IPR from IIT Kgp. After doing LLB from IIT KGP, you would be introduced to cyber law as well as the course content of IITKGP is very comprehensive and must be covering cyber law. Further Information Technology Law consists of 90 sections (previously it was 94) and few of them are mostly applicable, and a lawyer within a couple of days can learn it and master it as far as the law is concerned but it is not the law alone but law coupled with Information technology and here the technology matters more than the law and if one do not have the knowledge of technology, he cannot claim himself to be a cyber lawyer. In the legal arena many lawyers claim themselves to be cyber lawyer but I think few of them meet the standard. I myself have dealt with number of cases pertaining to IT law and allied laws like software copyright etc. But I feel handicapped for I do not have the knowledge of technical side and therefore, though dealing with IT Law cases never called myself or claim myself as a cyber lawyer. There are many areas of law where the Lawyers with the engineering background have edge over lawyer without engineering background. Like Software Copyright, Information Technology Laws etc. Once when I was dealing with the copyright infringement case, I had to sit with a computer engineer to understand the mechanism of software & how it was different from the software from which it is alleged to be copied so as to prepare the defense for my client who was fighting a false case of software infringement. If I would have been a software engineer or computer engineer, it would have been much easier for me to draft the defense and pursue the case in the court. Software Copyright is a grey area of law and the issue is not settled in even USA where there are conflicting judgments on the issues. The software copyright law requires the knowledge software engineering at an expert level plus the qualification in Law specially IPR. In India, I think there are very few lawyers who meet the standard. So if an engineering graduate like you enter this field, you would have a very nice opportunity as there are few lawyers who meet the standards and prospect for cyber lawyers is very good in years to come.
