Dear querist,

There is no rule specifically regarding taking permission for chajja. However if society is objecting take permission.

Regards,

If you feel, society or any other can object, proceed for permission.

If others have Chajja over window, quote the precedent in your request letter.

As the construction work shall definitely affect other residents of the society by one or the other way so it is advisable to obtain prior permission.

Dear Sir,
Normally you need not take such permission if rain water coming inside if such chajja is not installed.

SURESH BV, Advocate (Expert) 19 March 2020
Dear Sir,

If the required set back is left and the building is constructed as per the sanctioned plan, you need not obtain any permission from any body.

Alternately, you can proceed for temporary / tin shaded / sheet chajja.

Even though you are owner of your own unit but after all the whole building belongs to other unit holders also. Any construction though mey be in your unit but also affects others and even to structure so better to follow guidelines as contained in your society bye-laws and if not then to obtain prior permission of your society management.
T. Kalaiselvan, Advocate (Expert) 20 March 2020
You can obtain permission for installing the chajja by citing the drifting of rain water into your house as a strong reason.
There is no hard and fast rules prohibiting you from taking precautions on a future event as apprehended now, hence you may be permitted by the society, if not then you can plan to take steps legally to achieve your object.
