Spelling mistake in tenth class certificate

(Querist) 15 December 2012 This query is : Resolved
My son is in class XII. In his tenth ICSE certificate, one letter was missing in his name. It was never noticed by us. We had all along been using correct spelling only.
Recently he appeared for SAT with correct name and then we realized that the tenth certificate had wrong spelling of the name.
His class XII certificate also will come with the same name, his college tells us. But his SAT results will come with a different spelling and they object to this name in class XII marks.
Kindly help. How can this issue be resolved.

you approach at Govt Gazette Publication and changed the exact name and publish thereafter use correct name, its legally valid

Yes or you may swear an affidavit as well.

Not a legal query. Clerical staff at board office know the procedure. Contact Board Office

not a legal query.

This query of a layman and not lawman and thus should not be ignored as such.

You have to go too Education Board and has a request in writing to make correction in the issued certificates and reissue correct one otherwise this mistake may occur when you son applies for passport and visa in future.

If denied by Board, file a civil suit. Gazette notification shall not work as your son is not going to change his name rather the error is from the side of board.

Sudhir Kumar, Advocate (Expert) 16 December 2012
most probably board officials will guide you. it is not first case for them
Raj Kumar Makkad (Expert) 16 December 2012
Board officials generally show their inability to correct without court order so civil suit shall be required in that event.
Sudhir Kumar, Advocate (Expert) 16 December 2012
Yes if they are reluctant than suit is the remedy.
