Dear Mr.Prithviraj,

Contractor registered with a government agency or department is not regarded as official employment.You are entrusted to execute works on behalf of the government.It is not office of profit.
Hence you are free to contest elections.

Only employees of any Government organisation are prohibited to take part in politics or fight election. You, as a non-official private individual can contest an election.
