Copies of Judgments

(Querist) 29 March 2009 This query is : Resolved
PALNITKAR V.V. (Expert) 29 March 2009
To my knowledge the text of the judgment is not covered by the copyright if it is taken from the free site like the Supreme Court or the High Court sites maintained by the National Informatics Centre.
Kiran Kumar (Expert) 29 March 2009
Mr. palnitkar is absolutely right.

one more interesting thing i must add even if the judgment is copied from other reporter it does not amount to viloation of copyright provisions.

for details refer to Eastern Book co. case of 2008 widely reported in various reporters.
Murali Krishna (Expert) 29 March 2009
Judgements are not covered under Copy right Act -- However, head notes, editorials are intellectual property. Hence copying them is against law.
