Character Certificate from present employer

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 30 March 2011 This query is : Resolved
Hi,

I am working in a leading IT company. I am going to join a leading Public Sector bank. As part of my pre joining formalities for the bank, I need to submit the character certificate from my present employer. But my present employer is refusing to give me such certificate and are telling that we don't provide such certificates. They are not ready to give anything in writing. Bank is telling that the certificate is the compulsary requirement.

Could you please advise me in this regard.

Thanks

Do the bank insist for a character certificate from the previous employer?

You produce the relieving letter, if there is no negative remark is mentioned, it is presumed that the character is good.

Convince the bank.

hi. one shall not insist for character certificate, which is unlawful, for insulting. but one can insist for conduct certificate which is part and parcel of service certificate like " his performance and attitude in work is satisfactory".
so u need to convince the present and previous employers.
