Supreme Court has ruled that Sr. Citizens should be given priority. There was a new item in the TOI. Please search. I have conducted one case getting priority on the ground of complainant being a Sr. Cit. and the Court had agreed to it.

I do not think there is any law prescribing that senior cirtizens should be punished leniently. But it is well accepted dictum of crminology that the quantum of punishment should be commensurate to the intensity of the offence committed and the surrounding circumstances. While doing so judges also keep in mind the age of the convict while deciding the quantum of punishment. Thus juvenile convicts are dealt with leniently as also convicts who are very seniors and are of infirm health. This kind of leniency is also shown in the case of female convicts who are pregnant. Ex. the case of the woman convict in Rajiv Gandhi assassinaiton case who was spared of the gallows as she was pregnant at the time of conviction.
