I agree that succession amongst the Indian christians is goverend by the Indian Succesion Act, 1925. There is no concept of ancestral property under the Indian Succession Act. There is also no right by birth to children as under the Hindu law. All property owned by an Indian Chrisitian can be willed away by him by executing a will. In case the person dies without executing a will, the estate of the deceased will be distributed amongst the heirs as provided in Section 33 of the Act. The widow will get 1/3rd. and the balance will be distrbuted amongst the lineal descendants i.e., sons, sons' sons, daughters and duaghters' sons etc. in equal proportion. If there are no lineal descendants, the widow will get 1/2 share and the remaining 1/2 to those who are kindred to the deceased. (kindred means relations by blood ; but does not include relations by afinity such as mother-in-law or step mother or step father. For more details pl see the Act.
