I had motor accident. a auto ricksaw driver dash me from back side while I was taking U turn. One lady in auto was minor injured.

It was total mistake of autoricksaw driver but still when police came started saying that though it is a mistake of auto driver but we will keep the blame on you as you are covered with the insurance.

After much headache I settle the matter with some amount given to lady as a compensation.

Though it was not my fault I was forced to pay

will some one comment on this what options were open for me.

Also let me know the procedure when in case such accident happen again what shall I do. Is it compulsary to handover the car to police ?

Ask them to register FIR on your complaint.Then truth will come on record for future use. nextly,you need not hand over the car to police at all. In this case also you could have very well asked the police to take your complaint against the auto driver and register FIR . You need not have paid any compensation for the negligence of the auto driver.

File a complaint against the autorikshaw driver. If case is filed against you police will seize the car and you can get it release from the court sometimes in a police station they will release the car after due following the due procedure.
