Name Change

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 24 October 2013 This query is : Resolved
Hi,
My Name is Ravikumar Patel.
All educational document are in name of Ravikumar,
However master's certificate is in name of Only Ravi (not suffixed by Kumar).
As also I used to use Ravi as my name other than educational purpose like Bank etc..

Is it cause any problem in future for getting job, or getting VISA??

Do I need to Change Name?

I like to use my name as Ravi (not Ravikumar).

Should I need to change name for it?

You can use as Ravi for other than educational purpose. If the banks ask for the clarification, you will have to file an affidavit swearing that Ravi and Ravikumar is same.

Though the query is anonymous, you have written your name as Ravi (Ravi Kumar)

You can give news paper add for the name you want to use, followed by Gazette notification.

@ Shri P. Venu, my birth certificate shows "Ravi", however School Leaving Certificate shows "Ravikumar" and which is asked everywhere for birth proof and identity.

My Q is that am i able to use Ravi now for all purposes including educational.
Is any problem for getting job or visa due to diff name in diff documents?

As you know, it is customary that every name is suffixed by some honourifix, in my case "kumar". but my name is Ravi which is written in Birth Certificate.

Agrees with Experts
P. Venu (Expert) 24 October 2013

Your name as 'Ravi' in birth certificate may not cause any problem except when you apply for a passport or visa; but, that in the post graduation certificate may pause problem during verification for a Government job. Try to get it corrected from the University.

If you like to use the shorter name, please go for the due process.
