Can someone have 2 or more PAN cards ??
Is it legal and if not what are the penal clauses related to this.

you have to surrender any one card. keeping dual card is offence under it act. penalty is Rs.10000/=.

Quite illegal, if has has two PAN cards in the same name. But that is legal, if he has one in his personal name and one in the name of his firm or company.

Offence would arise if you use the two PAN cards to defraud someone or if it is proved that the two cards were created due to some incorrect documents being submitted by you regards to your Date of Birth or any address proof etc as the syatem would be able to match the same person through DOB so ideally it wont create a duplicate number for the same person.
Surrender the duplicate one

yes m also agree with above seniors having two pan card is illegal and penalty for this offence is Rs. 10000/-

I agree only with Sanjeev. Possession of two cards is not illegal rather its use for defrauding is illegal.

A BOLD NO IS MY ANSWER! ONE CAN NOT HAVE TWO PAN CARDS IN ONE CAPACITY.
IN CASE ONE CONTRAVENES THE MANDATE A SLAP OF 10K MAY BE FIXED ON HIS CHEEKS BY IT DEPARTMENT.

It is illegal to obtain another PAN card while having already one on your behalf.

In my opinion even obtaining the second PAN card itself is an offense.
If he disclose that he is having a already a PAN card, he will not get another PAN Card.
So, he had suppressed the fact, and gave false information for the purpose of getting a second PAN card.
So, it is punishable even if he is possessing two PAN cards.

you can have many pan card. But the numbers should be same. If you have more than one PAN number then you should concentrate on one PAN number onlyl

Agree with Mr Basu. Everytime you request for a change in residential address change detail, you get a new PAN card with same details on the same. You can even request for fresh issue of card. Howver, the PAN remains the same for all cards.
It is illegal to have multiple PAN. You should surrender additional PAN if issued to you by mistake.
