inter religion Marriage

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 16 March 2010 This query is : Resolved
I am a Hindu resident of Gujarat, ahmedabad, and my wife is a muslim and is also resident of ahmedabad. I would like to know the provisions for getting our marriage registered under the Marriage act followed in Gujarat.
My wife is ready to get converted as hindu and there is no objection from our parents side also.

Option 1: You have to register your marriage under Special Marriage Act.

Option 2: Since your wife is willing to change her religion your wife can change her name and identity to be hindu by way of gazette notification (issued by the government) and then you can perform your marriage by hindu rites and you will be governed by hindu marriage act.

yES YOU WILL ALSO HAVE ADVERTISEMENT IN LOCAL NEWSPAPER AS A PUBLIC NOTICE REGARDING THE CHANGE OF NAME OF YOUR WIFE AND OF HER ADOPTION OF HINDU RELIGION FROM CONVERSION TO ISLAM.
Raj Kumar Makkad (Expert) 16 March 2010
I do agree with both the experts. No gazette notification is required. simple change of religion is suffice. Perform your marriage as both Hindus.
