Defamation

(Querist) 17 May 2016 This query is : Resolved
I am working in a Government aided Educational Institution as a lecturer. I had organised a successful program with the help of a large group of students.

However after the program when I approached the authorities to issue certificates to these students it was denied and since then as the sole face of that program students have avoided me for a very long time. Infact one part of the program where a group received the first prize could not be given the money as well as the certificate and in my helpless state I can do nothing for them.

Can I file a case of defamation against that one Authority who has refused to give the certificates and the prize money and so have driven a wedge between me and the students.

You cannot file defamation case against the authority because there is no defamatory words which are communicated to third person or public.

Have you got proper permission for the program from the Management?

Whether the management has asked you to move forward with the program / as part of your duties / part of institution activities?

Has necessary financial approvals / limits / program guideline were approved by the management?

Whether management issued guidelines / norms to choose first from competition?

Management is defamed and not you. No defamation case lies in the given circumstances.

The communications on record need to be pursued to get to know where is the gap.
