wrong number given in original RC paper

hello sir/madam,
i owe ecosport car and after its registration i was given the number UP 79 K 2036 as written in original RC paper issued by RTO and from then i used the same number plate for more than a year and half. but recent when i verified i was shocked to know that my car number is UP79K2035. for the whole year i have been using wrong number plate. when asked RTO about the mistake they replied that its just a print mistake and made me liable for not verifying the number clearly. i wonder how this can be my mistake when like everyone i too relied on the original RC number issued by RTO and duly signed by the authorities. kindly provide me neccessary information in this regard and clearly suggest on whose shoulder the responsibility falls??

Certainly, it is their fault anf if it does not rectify it, serve a legal notice and if needed approach the consumer forum.

Whether any problem occurred due to this mistake?

If not, get the mistake rectified immediately and forget the episode.

ya .. few weeks ago my car met with an accident and a FIR is lodged. before the investigating officer verifies my car details v happens to verify it by my own so that i can get my vehical asap.. and it is during this verification we come to know about the misprinting of digit 5 to 6. . till date no one knows about this mistake except me myself and i wish to get this mistake rectified officially before this comes to the knowledge of verifying authority so as to avoid unneccessary charges which are likely to be levied by police for no fault of my own..
