Dear Sir/Madam,

My grandfather has written Dhana pathiram (not sure what we say in english), to my mother, now, can my mother register this land in my name, will i have all the rights to sell this anytime or to give to anhone i wish. My grandfather has a son (ie, my uncle), can his sons claim for the property eventhough my grand father gave it to my mother, basically i wish to know, what are the advantages and disadvantages in giving it as dhanam.

Dear Jaya
if the property is your grandfather's self acquire property then your grandfather's son (Uncle) can not claim any share in this property, but if this property is ancestral property then he can claim his share in this property.
if the property is self acquired, then you have right in the property or your mother can transfer the property to you and you will be absolute owner of the property, but in ancestral property your mother can transfer her share only to you and you will be owner of her share only.
feel free to call

Dhana Patiram means a gift made by your grandfather in favour of your mother. If your mother provides the same property to you by way of any mode, none has any reason to raise any objection if the gift is legal and valid.
