Recently I went to Puri (Odisha). While returning, my WB registered car was stopped at the State border and RTO asked me to pay Rs.800/= as state tax for private vehicles for entering and driving in Odisha state. They were quite adamant and even produced a state transport department govt. order to this effect. My question is: Whether a state can do this for Private vehicles registered in another state ?
A recent news item that a person of Indore (MP) RTO was found to possess Rs.40 crores in assets. I strongly suspect this is the same case in Odisha border. They could have printed receipts by themselves! ??

Various States have fixed such taxes for out state vehicles say taxis. May Odisha also have similar rules so it is not good to compare each and every matter with the RTO of Indore or Ujjain prior to its confirmation. Even peon of MP are richer in crores what to talk of RTO.
