Lost deed

we lost original document of our property.
whenever we need sell/divide our property,how can do it without original document.is certified copy of document valid on said process?

if you have lost original documents have you filed police complaint about the loss of orgonal documents .


you can make an application to sub registrar office for certifed copy of the document lost by you

I also agree with Shri Ajay Sethi. At the point of sale, difficulty may be arise on the part of purchaser, since original document is lost.

To file a complaint with police is not required by law but it creates an additional evidence in favor of you so we suggest it.

Obtain a certified copy. For division of property there is no difficulty, the certified copy will serve the purpose (to exactly mention about the schedule property in the partition deed). As Mr.Shailesh said you may face difficulty when you wish to sell the property either before or after partition, as the purchase will insist for original document as a precaution that the property is not dealt with before the offer. To convince the purchaser a copy of FIR will be an additional factor. As such there is no bar legally either for division or sale in the absence of original document.
