what is the difference between the MRTP Act, 1969 and Competition Act, 2002?

Broadly speaking, Competition Act, 2002 has replaced the MRTP Act. Now, the MRTP Act is not in force.

Yes, but in the context of the Competition Act not in force in respect of some of the aspects, the MRTP is still relevant with regard to some of its provisions. The Competition Tribunal has now overtaken the pending cases before the MRTP Tribunal.
In one word it is like Anti-Trust Law in USA to negate the bad effect of dominant abuse of the Cartels
