Marital Status in Passport

(Querist) 20 December 2010 This query is : Resolved
I recently applied for a new Passport- On 20-12-10.My Passport is expiring on 1-1-2011 . I am getting Married on 18-2-2011 . But since I applied just 2 months before my Marriage , in Passport my Marital Status will be reflected as "Single" . Would this matter in any way in the future when I travel with my spouse abroad (or when I have to apply for Passport of my Child ?)

Ans. Yes.

Solution to overcome the problem is Apply for Inclusion of Spouse Name in the Passport in Application Form(Form No-2)

To apply for addition of spouse name in the passport, the applicant is required to fill a Miscellaneous Application form (Form No. 2). The application form is available at the Passport Office at a cost of Rs.5/- or can be downloaded from http://passport.gov.in/pms/AnnexureL.htm. The filled-in application form may be submitted personally or through a representative having identity document and authority letter signed by the applicant as per Annexure.

Application Fee

An all inclusive fee of Rs.300/- is to be paid along with the application form either in cash or by bank draft drawn in favour of Regional Passport Officer, In case of bank draft, full name and date of birth of the applicant should be written on the reverse of the bank draft.

Documents Required

1. Valid Passport along with a photocopy.

2. Proof of Marriage

Marriage Certificate from Registrar of Marriages or notarized joint sworn affidavit signed by both husband and wife and with their joint photograph also attested by the notary public.

3. Spouse's Passport along with a photocopy

Thanks a lot for the answer . But can you tell me that in case if I don't submit form 2 after my Marriage ( as also my spouse) , what problems would arise ?
Advocate. Arunagiri (Expert) 22 December 2010
As you have applied your passport before the marriage, no problem will arise.
