Are In laws are dependent

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 10 August 2010 This query is : Resolved
HI experts
I work in MNC where dependent parents are covered for transfer expenses like train/air travel and medical expenses as per company policy.
My wife is single child. They do't have any son. My fater is no more now , mother is pretty old and stays with elder brothers.
Can I avail benifts which is avaiable for my parents for my in laws? My in laws stay with me and as a son I have to take care about them. Is it ok legally...
Company HR is not clear regarding policy for in laws..
pl. advice.
Regards

i don't think it is possible to extend it to your in laws. in law that words father and mother is restricted only to your father and mother and not to your in laws.

This type of facility is devised by particular company for particular persons. It may vary from one company to another. You have to first try to know whether the benefits otherwise reserved for your parents can be extended to your parents in law. I do not think that in absence of your parents the benefits would be extended to your inlaws.

It is the policy of the Companies involved not any legal obligation. This is not claimed as a right. Further lower category employees are not allowed this coverage. So you have to look to your company's policy or else ask them to relax the same in your case.
