There is no legal method to convert. It is all ritualistic.

Affidavit for the purpose is enough as there
is no law governing specific procedure.In tamilnadu a gazatte notification will do.

I have also the similar opinion. The change should not be based upon any lure, threat, coercive methods and with intent to marry with the second lady during the subsistence of first marriage.
