I am involved in a civil case pertaining to a Will I believe to be forged and am the respondent. The plaintiff has now placed original (unregistered) Will on file. My question is if I were to hire a forensic document examiner what would be the procedures that I should follow? Thank you for your assistance.

you must have taken the plea in support of caveat that will is forged . you will have to examine forensic expert as your witness to prove that will is forged . the expert shall examine signature on will with other documents signed by testator and then give evidence whether signature is genuine or forged

You can apply for appointment of such test in the suit. It is permissible.

It is better to engage a private hand-writing expert to authenticate the signatures and depose as a witness.

You can file a Interim Application seeking for a prayer to send this document for a forensic expert opinion, through a advocate commissioner.
The court may allow it, you have to pay the cost of forensic lab and the fee for the advocate commissioner.
Based on the report, the court will pass orders. That expert can be called as a witness.

and remember it is not conclusive evidence...if the forensic expert gives opinion in ur favor then the other side has equal opportunity to get the document examined at another Questioned document examination lab or forensic lab or a reputed document examiner......so be prepared for a lengthy litigation....

After Report of Expert, it is proved only on Cross Examination of Expert. There are Many Experts, but many eXPERTS collect money from both the parties!! FVR WHO PAY MORE!!BEWARE!! MUST BE RELIABLE & HONEST !!

I agree with Mr V R Shroff, in principle. Even then, in order to prove out claim/ version we shall have to have faith in the expert, not from FSL but a private one.
