Whether civil suit (other than petitions under the Hindu Marriage Act, petitions for maintenance, petitions under the Guardians and Wards Act) may be tried by a family court?

No. Being a special court constituted under special enactment, family court cannot try other civil disputes, in the capacity as family court.

No. Family Court Act has empowered such courts to entertain, try and decide cases of certain acts mentioned therein so there is no chance of any trial of other civil cases than mentioned therein.

Section 7 of the Family Courts Act, 1984 (the special enactment) gives widest of jurisdiction to a Family Court even to try suits and proceedings enumerated under different clauses thereof.
