Threatens from a close friend

(Querist) 22 June 2012 This query is : Resolved
Hi,

I have been getting threatens from my friend ( girl ) that she will walk to my office and damage my reputation by abusing. We were good friends for over years now. She got obsessed and we disconnected from each other for sometime. To what ever extent I could understand from her, she was going through a depression for some time when i was away and had recovered by treatment by a Psychological doctor. She is very smart and is a good plotter if I can say. Threatens have been to get my off my job from the current employer, will commit suicide etc if i dont continue to talk to her. I definitively need guidance on where to start to protect myself. Can we discuss these openly to HR of the employer and are there any legal measures that can be taken upfront to avoid an embarrassment? Can explain further once i start to see someone attending to this post.

You are advised to approach your local police at your earliest.

Thank you for the reply.

1> Will the police require any information regarding me or her.
2> Approaching police is starting an investigation or this is an intimation?
3> Will the police be cooperative first place and if yes then can we be honest in documenting everything?

One more question. I am temporarily working from a different location. Can the complaint be lodged from here or its better lodged at a place where i stay the most?

Better lodge a complaint with the Police.
The Police may grill both of you to verify the truth.
If you have the fear of getting skeletons out of the closet then better sit silent.

This is an intimation - don't seek registration of FIR or an active investigation. This should do, in all probability this is just an empty threat.

There is nothing wrong from myside that i am afraid of. I am only concerned that her Psychological may force her to take adverse steps. Now what kind of complications can these bring into the employment life?
Vinod (Querist) 22 June 2012
Appreciate your response Mr Bharat. She herself hails from a reputated organization. Pardon me asking this but if there is no documentation then how can it be tracked back if the party does what is being threatend owing to the Psychological imbalances?

Whatever are the consequences, try to come out of this whirlpool, with minimum scratches than grave injuries. She is nothing but engulfed with emotional pervertion,I don't think she regards you as an enemy, but she is enjoying psychologically by intruding into your professional life making you feel insecure. This type of attitude is very harmful than instant aggression.Hence be careful in the days to come and if you feel it is right lodge a police complaint,so that there could be some change in her attitude towards you.

You should file a police complaint. You can not fight back w/o disclosing true facts of the case.

Whether or not it is psychological war. There is no way to prevent her from doing what she is threatening except by proactive action.
