Does advocates show their testimonials ?

Guest (Querist) 12 September 2010 This query is : Resolved
I feel that before hiring an advocate, the would be client should ask the advocates to show a list of their successes, contacts of satisfied clients etc. so that the new clients may get a better idea, what type of services, they are going to get from the advocate,Is it in the practice in general ???
If ,yes,in what other forms??

No such practice is there in vogue. You cannot conduct an interview for the advocate before handing over your case. You have to enquire about the ability of the advocate through your sources, satisfy yourself and entrust the matter,if you are convinced. No advocate, who is esteemed, would be ready to undergo such rigorous formalities as you have expected for the sake of briefs. By a formal interaction with an advocate you can conclude about his suitability to handle your case. That will suffice.

I would further add that there must be an approved online portal to view the profile of all practicing advocates under the control of Bar Council of India. This would address to client's requirements as to verify the bonafide details of the counsel.
