Dear experts, Yesterday FIR has been filed against 6 accused in a criminal complaint. One of the accused may go abroad within one week. Police not serious in stopping him. Can we directly write letter to the director of airport to stop him with the copy of FIR? Since we don't know the passport number. Please give me your opinions.

what is your connection with the case. if you are the defacto complainant, you can approach the high court invoking inherent powers under Sec.482 Cr.P..C. for a direction to the police to seize the passport from the acused.

well I dont agree with Mr. Subramanian, as far as my knowledge is concerned Police can not seize passport. It is only the passport authority under the Passport Act which can do so.
In your case, you may apprise about the matter to the concerned embassy and certainly to the airport authorities too.
as per the latest judgments also the HC can not issue directions to arrest a person, so you will have to use other tools to ensure that the accused remains in India.
